Question No 01:- What are the advantages of using LPG and CNG as fuels?

Answer:- Advantages of LPG
       LPG is considered to be a better fuel because of the following reasons:

(1) LPG has a high calorific value. Its calorific value is about 50 KJ/g. This means that when 1 gram of LPG burns in a gas stove, it produces about 50 kilojoules of the heat energy.
(2) It burns with a smokeless flame and so does not cause pollution.
(3) LPG does not produce any poisonous gases on burning.
(4) LPG is easy to handle and convenient to store.
(5) It undergoes  complete combustion.
(6) LPG is a very neat and clean domestic fuel.

              Advantages of  CNG
(1) CNG  has also a high calorific value.
(2) It does not cause air pollution.
(3) CNG is least polluted fuel and it undergoes complete combustion.

Question NO 02:- Name the petroleum product used for suffering of the road.

 Answer:- The petroleum product used for suffering of the road is bitumen.

Question NO 03:- Describe how coal is formed from dead vegetation. What is this process called?

Answer:- Formation of coal and Petroleum from Dead Vegetation
     About  300 million years ago, the forests got buried under the soil. They were compressed by soil deposits and temperature also rose as they sank deeper. Due to this high temperature and pressure,coal was formed from dead vegetation by the process of carbonization.

 Question No 04:- Fill in the blanks:-

  1. Fossil fuels are _________,__________ and ____________.
  2. Process of separation of different constitutions from petroleum is called ___________.
  3. Least polluting fuel is for vehicle is __________.
                  Answer:
  1. Fossil fuels are coal, Petroleum  and natural gas.
  2. Process of separation of different constitutions from petroleum is called Refining.
  3. Least polluting fuel is for vehicle is CNG (compressed natural gas)
Question No 05:- Tick true/ false against the following statements.

(a) Fossil fuels can be made in the laboratory.         {T/F}
(b) CNG is most polluting fuel than petrol.                {T\F}
(c) Coke is almost pure form of carbon.               {T\F}
(d) Coal tar is mixture of various substances.        {T\F}
(e) Kerosene is not a Fossil fuel.            {T\F}

                     Answer:
(a) Fossil fuels can be made in the laboratory.         (False)
(b) CNG is most polluting fuel than petrol.                (False)
(c) Coke is almost pure form of carbon.              ( True)
(d) Coal tar is mixture of various substances.       (True)
(e) Kerosene is not a Fossil fuel.                (True)

Question No O6:- Explain why fossil fuels are exhaustible natural resources.

Answer:- Fossils fuels as exhaustible natural resources.                                                                         It took many hundred years yo convert dead plants and animals into fossil fuels. Moreover,reserves fossil fuels are limited in quantity for the use of human activities. So, these fossil fuels are called exhaustible natural resources.

Question No 07:- Describe the characteristics and uses of coke.

Answer:- Characteristics of coke:
(i) Coke is tough and porous black substance
(ii) lt is a pure form of carbon.
(iii) lt burns in air and forms carbon dioxide.

               Uses of coke:
(i)   lt is used in the manufacture of graphite.
(ii) It is used in the manufacture of water gas and producer gas which are used as important              fuels.
(iii) It is used in the manufacture calcium carbide required for producing acetylene gas.
(iv) lt is used to attract metal like copper, iron, zinc and lead
(v) Since it burns without producing  any smoke, so it is used  for the household fuel.

Question No 08:-Explain the process of formation of petroleum?
Answer:- Formation of petroleum
    Petroleum is a Fossil fuel.It is formed beneath the earth by the bacterial decomposition of remain of plants and animals which got buried under the sea. Due to some natural calamities like earthquake and volcanic inumerable living organisms (plants and animals) got buried under the earth.

Question No 09:-What are exhaustible natural resources? Give examples.

 Answer:- exhaustible natural resources.                                                                                      The natural resources the quantity of which is limited and which can be exhausted by human activities, are called exhaustible material resources.
Examples:- Forests, wildlife, minerals, coal, petroleum and natural gas etc.

Question No 10:-What are Inexhaustible natural resources? Give examples.

Answer:- Inexhaustible natural resources.
    Those natural resources which are  present in unlimited quantity in nature and which are not likely to be exhausted by human activities are called inexhaustible natural resources.Examples:- Sunlight, air etc.

Question No 11:- Why is natural gas called a clean fuel?

Answer:- Natural gas is also called a clean fuel because it does not polluted the air with smoke or soot it does not leave any unburied particular or carbon in air. It does not leave any ash as residue after burning. It can also be transported from one place to another place through pipes. This is their reason that natural gas is called a clean fuel.

Question No 12:-What are the uses of coke?

Answer:- Uses of coal
 (i) Coal is used as a fuel to cook food in houses.
(ii) It is used as a fuel to produce steam to run railway engines.
(iii) It is used as a fuel to produce electricity in thermal power plants.
(iiii) Coal is used as a fuel in industry.
(iv) It is used as a starting material for getting different products.
